Review of the Economic Operations of Enterprises under the Supervision of the Central Government from January to May
The revenue of main business and economic returns of enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government maintained quite strong growth from January to May. But the growth slowed down in April and May as a result of the SARS crisis, especially in the civil aviation and tourist industries.
1.Production and revenue of main business grew rapidly.
From January to May, the revenue of main business of 181 enterprises which have reported data increased by 31.6% to reach 1.26461 trillion yuan. The gross industrial output value of 69 industrial enterprises increased by 23.6% to reach 749.71 billion yuan compared with the same period last year.
2.Export increased drastically.
Facing the negative impact of SARS epidemic on business development, the enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government maintained the rapid increase of foreign trade by making timely adjustments to market strategies and marketing patterns. From January to May, the enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government achieved export delivery valuing at 55.07 billion yuan, an increase of 42.1% year-on-year, among which industrial enterprises achieved 53.9 billion yuan, an increase of 43.4%.
3.Economic returns increased substantially.
From January to May, the total profits of enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government increased by 67.7% to reach 119.56 billion yuan; the losses of loss-making enterprises decreased by 29.9% to reach 7.9 billion yuan; the losing percentage was 35.4%, down 8.8 percentage points; and tax dues realized were 70.53 billion yuan, up 29%. 42 enterprises, each with a total profit of more than 100 million yuan made an aggregate profit of 125.47 billion yuan, accounting for 98.4% of the total profits of all profit-making enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government. The top-10 profit-making enterprises reported aggregate profits of 110.88 billion yuan, accounting for 87% of the total profits of all profit-making enterprises.
Industrial enterprises ranked first among the top ten sectors in terms of profit increase. The profits achieved by 69 industrial enterprises were 74.88 billion yuan, accounting for 62.6% of the total profits of enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government, which was 1.47 times year-on-year. The increase of profits took up 92.4% of all enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government. The composite index of industrial economic returns was 153.1, an increase of 25.5 points compared with the same period last year.
The profits of foreign trade enterprises rose rapidly while those of telecommunications enterprises maintained steady increase. Profits realized by foreign trade enterprises from January to May rose by 37.9% to reach 1.87 billion yuan. Those achieved by telecommunications enterprises rose by 10.5% to reach 45.29 billion yuan, taking up 37.9% of total profits achieved by enterprises under the supervision of the Central Government.
4.The main business of scientific research enterprises grew steadily.
18 scientific research enterprises claimed aggregate revenue of 3.91 billion yuan from their main business from January to May, up 15.7% from the previous year. 13 enterprises among them were on the increase. The aggregate profits achieved were 30 million yuan, an increase of 90 million yuan over the previous year. Among them, 13 enterprises made profits, compared with 10 in the first four months of the year.
